Conferences > Press & Media Centre > Media Frenzy For Southport
Southport has attracted another conference to the resort - and it is hot off the press.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) will bring around 300 journalists to Southport in March 2009 to hold its annual conference.
The development of facilities and accommodation in Southport has led to Sefton's Conference and Corporate Sales Team having a record year so far after they attracted almost £50 million of business in the first six months of 2007. A rapid period of sales has seen conferences being booked in the resort as far ahead as 2017.
Hundreds of journalists from national and regional newspapers, business publications, consumer magazines and others will come to the resort to experience its new look which has seen delegates and organisers flooding to the town for a variety of conferences and exhibitions.
Established in 1907 the NUJ is one of the biggest journalist unions in the world with 35,000 members covering the range of editorial work - staff and freelance, writers and reporters, editors and sub-editors, photographers and illustrators, working in broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, books, on the internet and in public relations.
Sefton Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism, Cllr Lord Ronnie Fearn, said: "I have been really impressed with the hard work and dedication of our Conference Team who have successfully brought in millions of pounds of business for Southport.
"We have a lot to offer and even more is being developed to make Southport a perfect destination for conferences of all sizes. It will be wonderful to have so many members of the media in town who I am sure will be very impressed with what they see."
