Southport Train Station is in the heart of the town, making Southport easy to get to from the North West, with around 2.5 million visitors each year; it is one of the main gateways to the town.

The main entrance to Southport train station is located in one of the town's main shopping areas, Chapel Street, with Marks and Spencer, Wilko's and other retailers accessible from within the station.

Merseyrail train stations are conveniently situated throughout Southport and Merseyside, perfectly located for getting around the region. They operate regular train services connect Southport and the surrounding areas including Liverpool, Formby, Ormskirk, Chester, West Kirby and Hunts Cross.

There are 66 stations to choose from and many have car park facilities. Northern Rail operates regular services to Southport from Manchester Airport, Manchester (Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria stations), Bolton and Wigan. Connecting services to / from the North East and Yorkshire are available at Manchester Piccadilly and from the North, Scotland and the South at Wigan.
