Sun Safe Code
Always follow the Sun Safe Code:
- Avoid the sun when most intense, usually between 11am-3pm
- Seek shade whenever possible, particularly when on lunch breaks or having a picnic
- Cover up with tightly woven, loose fitting clothes: long sleeves, trousers, skirts
- Wear a wide brimmed hat and UV sunglasses
- Avoid getting burnt
- Take extra care of babies' and children's delicate skin
- Apply sunscreen regularly using Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 15 or above
- Do not use sunbeds
- Avoid dehydration, carry a water bottle
- Check your skin regularly and report any changes to your doctor immediately
- Be Safe at the Seaside
- Swim only in designed bathing areas marked by red and yellow flags
- Airbed and dinghies should not be used on the sea
- Don't swim straight after a meal
- Look out for advice on notice boards at the beach entrance
- It is safer to swim parallel to the shore where standing depth is nearby
- Always swim in groups of at least 3 or 4
- Children shouldn't swim or paddle without an adult
