The wonderful stretch of coast at Formby features a glorious beach with miles of walks through the pinewoods and dunes. Formby remains a place to enjoy views of the rare Red Squirrels although sadly numbers have fallen in recent times.
Lifeboat Road is an excellent place to start you exploration of Sefton's Natural Coast. Managed by Sefton Coast and Countryside Service, the 150 acre (60ha) site has a wide sandy beach, high dunes, furrowed grassland (former asparagus fields) and a belt of pinewoods.
Nearby you will find The National Trust, Formby which is a great starting point for walks along the Sefton Coastal Path. A short walk away from the car park you can find a real sense of being away from it all, in tranquil surroundings, with dramatic views across the dunes and wide sandy beaches set against the backdrop of the pinewoods.
The fantastic Ravenmeols Sandhills Local Nature Reserve in Formby is also a must see, and is characterised by a high mobile dune ridge with smaller embryo dunes next to the expansive and largely undisturbed beach.
