Characters: The people behind the portraits

Part of the 2008 Capital of Culture celebrations, Characters is a major exhibition of portraiture in all its forms and will focus particularly on the stories of the sitters and what led to their portrait being produced. Featuring works from the Atkinson Art Gallery's permanent collection and from significant national collections this is a fantastic opportunity to see the very best in portraiture through the ages.
