Sefton Church was founded in 1170. Dedicated to St. Helen, the building mostly dates from 1535-38, though the Lady Chapel is much older. Pulpit dated 1635. Magnificent screens, early 16th century, restored by Caroe. Many interesting monuments, tombs and pews - including dog whipper's pew. Eight bells dating from 1588 to 1945. Large churchyard. Family church of the Molyneux, Earls of Sefton, and also of the Blundells of Ince and of Little Crosby. The only grade 1 listed building in Sefton Metropolitan Borough.
