Saturday 26 July, 7.30pm

The International Festival Club Night is back with a potent mix of African rhythms, UK roots and global beats. Imagine a WOMAD Festival, distilled to its essence and poured directly into your local venue!

JUSTIN ADAMS & JULDEH CAMARA
Justin Adams is one of today’s most creative and interesting guitarists and composers. His work with Saharan desert blues sensations Tinariwen, Robert Plant’s Strange Sensations band, and collaborations with Brian Eno, Jah Wobble, Lo’Jo, as well as musicians from African, Arabic and Irish traditions, have created his unique style

He is joined by Juldeh Camara, Gambian griot and master musician who plays the ritti, a one-stringed fiddle. Their album, "Soul Science" (“Unquestionably the cross-cultural album of the year.” The Independent on Sunday) envisions a modern world where ancient spirits are enlivened by the crackle of rock and roll electricity.

Their live shows also feature Adams' long time percussionist Salah Dawson Miller.

SOOTHSAYERS
From the streets of South London, where roots and dancehall rub shoulders with Afro beat, hip hop and dub, comes the organic and unique sound of Soothsayers, a vibrant, 8-piece, multi-cultural collective.

“a joyful, funky set mixing township jazz, dub reggae and jazz-funk” The Times

RISE KAGONA & CHAMPION DOUG VEITCH
Rise Kagona, legendary guitarist and founding member of The Bhundu Boys - the band that almost single-handily converted a large swathe of the population of the U.K. into African music lovers - has reunited with the man who discovered them on the Harare music scene and brought them to the UK all those years ago. Champion Doug Veitch, the maverick Scottish musical pioneer who merges country and cajun into reggae, now introduces Kagona's "Harare Jit" into the glorious gumbo.
