Southport's reputation as a 'floral town' is well justified, with it's town centre gardens and parks as well as several other beautiful parks dotted around the resort.
Botanic Gardens is the jewel in the crown, set in Churchtown village on the edge of Southport, this beautiful
Victorian Park merits at least a half day visit. There is a museum, lake (with boats for hire), fernery, pets corner, aviary, bandstand, mini golf and some of the most wonderful floral displays you are ever likely to see. There is an extensive family-run cafe and banqueting hall, which welcomes coach groups throughout the year (there is a massive Christmas fair from October to December every year).
Hesketh Park is the town's largest park and is great for families having a children's play area, mini golf, aviary(with some very impressive peacocks), observatory, tree trail and of course a cafe and shop.
Victoria Park is 5 minutes walk from Lord Street and is host to a number of the town's events including the Flower Show, Summer Classics and North West Motor Show. The park also has a large gauge model railway, boating pond, play area, croquet lawns, bandstand and is home to Southport's model car racing club.
Princes Park is again only 5 minutes walk from Lord Street, surrounding The Marine Lake, and having a plethora of attractions for all the family. There are boats for hire, a Mississippi style paddle steamer, pitch and putt, miniature railway village and lots more.
Add to this the beautiful gardens along Lord Street which perfectly complement the classic architecture of the town's civic buildings and you can see why Southport is justifiably proud of its floral heritage.
