Formby Ladies, co-hosts for the Curtis Cup, occupies the same links while remaining completely independent, a splendid ladies championship course. Here the par-3s are among the most difficult to be found anywhere and, considering the total scene, Greg Norman wrote to the club: 'Over a hundred years old and still your course can stand the test of time. What a beautiful course. It clearly shows that courses do not have to be 7,000 plus yards to be formidable.'

On both Formby and Formby Ladies the rough and heather demand great accuracy. They also perhaps call for that extra degree of concentration in such lovely surroundings, the cocktail of varying shades of green, the sea and dunes, pines whispering in the summer breeze.

Writing more than four decades ago, at the time of the Amateur, Ben Wright recalled the lovely pines. 'Formby is unique among all our great seaside courses in that it is blessed with such a profusion of pine trees, whose smell is so delicious and whose presence does so much to soften and beautify the landscape....'

The same would go for Formby Ladies too, sharing the same landscape. Nothing has changed with the years.
