The Southport and Sefton coast is home to over 1000 species, so it’s easy to see why the area is a favourite with nature lovers.
One of the best spots to take in the great outdoors is Ainsdale where there are 10 kilometres of way-marked paths.
Nearby Lifeboat Road in Formby is known as the gateway to the Mersey Forest. With high dunes, furrowed grassland a belt of pine woods the area provides a special setting for romantic strolls and family picnics. It’s here where you could catch a glimpse of the endangered Red Squirrel too.
A little further down the coast is Crosby Coastal Park, ideal for sailing at the Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre or to take a look at the 100 intriguing statues that create ‘Another Place’.
Back in Southport town centre is the Queen’s Jubilee Nature Trail – a great spot for bird enthusiasts and walkers.
Nearby you’ll notice the Eco Visitor Centre made from environmentally sustainable resources. Popular with local and visiting schools because of its educational approach to the environment, the centre is also where the town’s popular Park & Ride scheme starts.
