Mamadou & the Super Libidor make a welcome return to the festival. Mamadou Diaw is from Senegal, West Africa. He is a master drummer and singer and composes all the music for his band, which is based in Liverpool and features local musicians including saxophonist Martin Robinson, keyboard player/singer Karen Wynne and violinist Tom Sykes. The style of music is a mixture of jazz, funk, and Senegalese mbalax – very rhythmic, and if you’ve seen the band at Southport before, you’ll know how difficult it will be to keep your feet still!
