Southport’s well-known Coach Welcome Hosts, Rod and Wendy Wright have received recognition from the Rotary Club of Southport for their service to the community.

The accolade recognises Rod and Wendy’s ‘Outstanding Service above Self, over the last 24 Years’ and links to the Rotary International ethos of ‘Service above Self’.

As Southport’s official Coach Welcome Hosts, Rod and Wendy meet coaches arriving in the centre of Southport on day trips between March and October. They board the coach to explain what’s happening in the town and to hand out maps and other leaflets. This forms part of the ‘Southport Welcome’, a travel trade initiative that also highlights the town’s dedicated, secure coach parking.

Commenting on the accolade, Steve Christian, destination development manager with Visit Southport, says: “Rod and Wendy provide a first-class service, welcoming coaches and their groups to Southport. This recognition from the Rotary Club of Southport is very well deserved.”

The work carried out by Rod and Wendy played a key role in Southport being awarded the title of ‘Coach Friendly Destination of the Year’ at the British Coach Tourism Awards 2017.
