10 ways to enjoy January in Southport

Time to put the decorations away, the festive period is over and here comes January!

Blow the cobwebs of Christmas on the coast, a great way to escape the January blues.

Delicious meals, fresh air, culture and a gin or two along the way, Southport is the best way to beat the dreads of January!

A walk along the Pier!

Southport has the oldest iron Pier in the country and the views when you get to the end are incredible. You can blow Christmas away with a walk along the Pier. Sit in the Pier Pavilion at the end and enjoy the views with a cosy hot chocolate.

A brand-new carvery!

Missing the Christmas food? The Bold Hotel has recently closed for refurbishment but will be opening on 20th January as a carvery - roast meats, roast potatoes and all the fixings!

Search for a Red Squirrel

Now that the kids are back in school, keep their weekends jam packed with outdoor activity. In Formby Pinewoods they can go exploring in the woods, search for a Red Squirrel or fly a kite on the beach. The mix of coast and pine woods in this space is simply breath-taking.

Head to Crosby beach and see the art installation 'Another Place', by Antony Gormley. Often dressed up, at times in red or blue, they are a selfie taking magnet!

Westwood Exhibition at The Atkinson

This collection is owned by British Graphic Designer Malcolm Garret who donated it to Manchester Met University and some of his collection is now on display in The Atkinson.

The exhibition includes many of Vivienne Westwood's clothes, shoes, handbags and famous corsets. Set out on a lit runway the clothes tell a story of Britain in recent times.

It's a must see!


Get the bikes out and go for a ride

There are so many different cycle routes in Southport, you can enjoy the different landscapes from coast to countryside, take your own bike or hire one from the Eco Centre. Plus it is a great way to burn off all of those mince pies!


Watch a panto!

Cling onto the Christmas spirit by going to see the All Souls Dramatic Club 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The family panto promises to be a 'genie-us' modern adaptation!
