About the BID

This website is brought to you by Southport Business Improvement District (southportBID). The BID is an independent organisation that represents more than 950 businesses in Southport Town Centre.  It's main focus is to support and improve the economic vitality by investing monies, raised from a levy, into a programme of events, environmental improvements and crime reduction initiatives that benefit the Town Centre.

The BID continues to promote, enhance and develop the shopping experience in the town centre and promote the amazing businesses to be found here.  The BID runs campaigns promoting the wealth of independent shops and restaurants in the centre with it’s ongoing Southport Indies campaign.

Bringing great events to the streets of Southport

Southport BID works hard to create and support a programme of events designed to fill an already exceptional events calendar for Southport, drive footfall out of the peak summer season and help provide additional profile and promotion for Southport. The BID took over the Christmas lights switch on in 2015 to great success, with a celebrity concert and full afternoon of entertainment.

Southport BID also introduced Spookport – Southport’s Annual Halloween festival to the town centre, with the intention of capitalising on the increasing popularity and spend during this period, to boost October half term footfall and provide a vehicle for businesses in town to promote themselves and their events to a wider audience.

The BID also support and help fund other events, most notably the Southport Festival. About to enter it's third year, the BID joint funds the festival with Sefton Council.  The festival brings an explosion of art and culture to the town centre and takes place along various streets and in dozens of venues, ensuring the footfall and spend is in the town centre and its businesses.

Southport BID is one of over 300 BIDs and began its fourth year in November 2017 having come into existence in November 2014 following a successful ballot. Its first term will last 5 years until October 2019.  If successful at the ballot it will be able to continue supporting retailers and help promote the town as a retail destination.
