Southport Festival

Punk, folk, art, poetry, laughter, jellyfish, theatre, pottery, story time and choirs…this was Southport Festival 2017.

Over three days, Southport burst into life with a huge programme of art and culture splashed throughout its venues and open spaces. Highlights included headliners, the legendary John Cooper Clarke and The Royle Family writer Henry Normal and two days of diverse and exciting live music in the gardens.

Memories were made at Wesley Street’s annual sea festival and with jellyfish making, street drawing and art demonstrations there was plenty of activity for all generations throughout the weekend.

Music poured from venues throughout the town centre, with jazz orchestras, flamenco guitar, folk, jive and pop punk bands just some of the excellent free performances enjoyed over 3 days and nights!

Remedy had a stage outside and over the weekend the oldest and youngest of generations danced in the streets enjoying the sunshine, atmosphere and good music.

The music, colour and words will be back next year, as Southport Festival grows. So keep following us on social media for news and updates for 2018 and in the meantime share your memories, experiences and highlights with us #southportfest17.

Who we are…

Southport Festival is brought together through collaboration and a united sense of wanting to bring art, culture and colour to Southport.

The festival is directed by representatives from Southport Contemporary Arthouse, The Atkinson, Southport BID and Sefton Council alongside passionate members of the local arts community.

Funded and resourced by Southport BID and Sefton Council the festival is now in its second year, having been emerged from the annual Arts Trail and Jazz Festival before it.

The festival wouldn’t of course be possible without the enthusiasm and participation of the brilliant businesses, partners and venues involved, including Wesley Street Traders, Sandgrounder Radio and more.

Our aims are to bring together communities, art forms and local talent and businesses to create a diverse festival that truly has something to offer everyone!
