Is over 22 miles long stretching from Crosby beach to Southport beach

Waterloo & Crosby

Waterloo is where Crosby beach begins and is the start of the 22 miles of amazing coastline. Crosby Marine Park stretched three miles up to Blundellsands and is the home to Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ art installation.

Spread across the three kilometres of beach, 100 cast iron life size figures stand looking towards the horizon. Often decorated or dressed by locals, this installation is worth a day trip when staying in Southport.

Waterloo is a great place to park and start exploring the coast. Although predominately a residential suburb of Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian villas facing the sea; South Road also has an abundance of restaurants and bars.

Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre also specialising in water sports such as dragon boating, kayaking and canoeing. There is also a lovely bistro overlooking the lake offering high quality food and locally sourced ingredients.

The Marina is a stretch of fields and protected natural wildlife area near the Marina Lake; this is the main route to the beach. Crosby Marina is also the home of Crosby Sailing Club and offers kayak and dinghy sailing for all levels.

Worth a visit whilst on a day trip is The Plaza Community Cinema, an award winning volunteer ran cinema which shows movies and hosts local events for a fraction of the cost of a big cinema.

Little Crosby is a small rural village which has retained character by not having street lights. There is a small courtyard café selling homemade, local delights and The Well Barn, a courtyard home to shops, florist and a furniture maker to name a few.

Crosby and Waterloo is assessable by train direct from Southport train station and is a short 20 minute journey. The entry to the beach from Waterloo is a short walk from the train station which makes this a great start to exploring the coast. Stop and have a bite to eat, enjoy the local nightlife, or head back to Southport and enjoy the abundance of independent restaurants and bars.
