About

Along this route you will enjoy the resorts varied urban landscapes and the newly developed community woodland.

You will pass through King’s Gardens, Portland Street playing fields and then Newlands, the Community Woodland.

This is home to a variety of wildlife and Kestrels can regularly be seen hunting over head. Heading back into the town you will pass through the grounds of the hospital and across the playing fields at Meols Cop, adjacent to KGV College and Southport Football Club.

The route also takes you past Hesketh Golf Club with the RSPB bird reserve at Marshside close by.

  1. Turn left out of the Eco Centre and go straight across the roundabout.
  2. Turn left after the fair ground car park into Kings Gardens, follow the path with the bowling greens on the right. Exit the park, cross Promenade and turn into Coronation Walk.
  3. Continue straight on, crossing Lord Street, into Portland Street. Follow Portland Street, crossing the railway line and Cemetery Road. At the end of the road enter the playing fields and follow the track.
  4. Turn right out of the playing fields and enter the Community Woodland. Go left in the Woodland, cross the bridge and take the first exit on the right. Turn left onto Town Lane and follow the shared use track up to the second entrance for the Hospital.
  5. Turn left into the Hospital and follow the path to Scarisbrick New Road.
  6. Go straight across Scarisbrick New Road, pass through the park and after crossing Meols Cop Road follow the track to Foul Lane.
  7. Turn left onto Foul Lane and continue onto Wennington Road. At the end of the road cross Roe Land into Hesketh Drive.
  8. Take the first right into Churchgate and then left into Bibby Road.
  9. At the end of Bibby Road turn right and then left at the roundabout on Cambridge Road.
  10. Go straight ahead at the traffic lights and continue until you reach Stanley High School. Marshside RSPB can be found if you continue straight along this road. Turn left at the school and follow Fleetwood Road.
  11. Pass Hesketh Golf Club and the Municipal Golf Course, then turn right onto Park Road West and take the second left into Knowsley Road.
  12. Continue up to the mini roundabout, go straight across onto Esplanade.
  13. Turn right onto Marine Way Bridge, pass through Ocean Plaza and turn right to join the sea wall cycle track.
  14. At the Trans Pennine Trail monument turn left and head back to the Eco Centre.
