About

This circular route boasts spectacular panoramic views that include North Wales and the Lake District.

You will pass the Marine Lake and Bird Reserve at Marshside, a popular nesting spot for many birds including avocets and lapwings.

You will also pass through Churchtown, a pretty village, north of Southport, with its numerous small boutiques and specialist shops.

It is also home to Botanic Gardens, a park nationally renowned for its floral displays and numerous other attractions such as its lakes and museum. You will return back to the Eco Centre having past through Southport Town Centre.

  1. Turn right out of the Eco Centre and head down Esplanade.
  2. Go right at the roundabout onto the shared use sea wall cycle path.
  3. Continue along the path, passing under the pier, until you reach the Toucan crossing.
  4. Turn right into Marshside Road, Marshside RSPB is on both sides of the road.
  5. Turn left into Fylde Road and continue until reaching the Shrimper Public House, take the next right here into Fairhaven Road.
  6. Go straight across the mini roundabout at Preston New Road into North Road and then take the third road on the right into Balmoral Drive.
  7. Continue along Balmoral Drive and turn left into Verulam Road passing the rear entrance of Botanic Gardens.
  8. Turn Right into Bankfield Lane and folllow the road round with Botanic Gardens and then St Cuthberts Church, with its public stocks, on the right.
  9. Continue through Churchtown along Cambridge Road turning right at the roundabout.
  10. Turn left at the traffic lights and continue straight along Cambridge Road up to the next roundabout Go straight across into Park Crescent with Hesketh Park on your right, then to Queens Road and the Town centre.
  11. Turn right at the start of the Pedestrianised area and go straight across Lord Street after passing the War memorial.
  12. Continue up Nevill Street, pass the 1904 Statue of Queen Victoria and turn right onto Promenade.
  13. Travel along Promenade, turn right at the roundabout and head back to the Eco Centre.
