About
This is an ideal route to enjoy some of Southport’s best landmarks and it is clearly signed in both directions.
Along the sea front you will have views out to the Irish Sea and pass a variety of interesting sculptures including the Trans Pennine Trail's Sea Mark. You will pass under the second longest pier in Britain, with its cafes and penny arcades.
You will pass the Marine Lake, home to a variety of watersports and the Southport Belle, a Mississippi style paddle steamer, and through Kings Garden, the home of the model railway village.
Turn right from the Eco Centre car park and head down Esplanade.
Go right at the roundabout and onto the shared use sea wall cycle path.
Continue along the path passing the Trans Pennine Trail art feature and under the pier up to the next roundabout.
Cross the roundabout to the right onto Fairways, follow the cycle track to the Promenade and turn right on the shared use cycle path. Continue along the path with the lake to your right up to the Lakeside Inn.
Turn right into the car parks and follow the path around the lakeside past Bliss Hotel Southport (formally the Ramada Plaza) and under the pier. Then continue to follow the lakeside path to the Lakeside Miniature Railway, the oldest continually running 15” Gauge railway in the world, which first opened in 1911.
Go left, then right onto the shared use path past the Fairground and straight ahead back to the Eco Centre.
