About

Runaways. Fairies. Goblins. Water pistols?!?! Oh yes, Shakespeare’s been “Rubbished”.

Following last year’s five-star smash-hit, Romeo and Juliet, the Rubbish Shakespeare Company are back. Their aim: to stage the greatest production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream ever seen. Will they succeed? No, but they will fail spectacularly, for an hour, for your enjoyment.

Featuring high-octane slapstick action, mischievous storytelling and belly laughs galore; expect a trail of wigs, bubble guns, cardboard cutouts and a frankly pitiful attempt at roller skating.

Perfect as an introduction to Shakespeare or as a rollicking family treat. Your kids will love it; so will you!

Ages 4 – 104!

Reviews

“This must be one of the funniest interpretations of the classic tragedy to ever be performed. Rubbish is certainly not a word that will be uttered when the audience leave the theatre” – ★★★★★ Families Online

“They are as far from the image of a Shakespearean troupe as it’s possible to imagine yet their free form, gender fluid version of Romeo and Juliet is a fantastic way to introduce kids to something more challenging than Paw Patrol” – ★★★★ Daily Record

“What an achievement!” – ★★★★ Buxton Fringe

“If you asked my 9 year-old now to tell you the story of Romeo and Juliet I think she’d probably get it about 90% accurate, in an abridged version. With the benefit she thinks Shakespeare is fun, and entertaining.” – An Organised Mess

“Your kids will love it; so will you!” – Simon Nelson, Development Executive: BBC Writers Room. BAFTA Nominated

“100% amazing” – Lucy Porter, Comedian

“Unique and vibrant” – Sunday Express

About The Rubbish Shakespeare Company

The Rubbish Shakespeare Company (RubSC) are a children’s and family-friendly theatre company, with roots in Creative Education. Founded by three LJMU graduates in 2007, RubSC’s mission is to make Shakespeare For All. Their goal: for the Bard’s work to be accessible to everyone, regardless of background. As for those who’ve had negative formative experiences with Shakespeare, RubSC want to show Shakespeare is not, in fact, rubbish!
