Southport Train Station

Southport Train Station is in the heart of the town, making Southport easy to get to from the North West, with around 2.5 million visitors each year; it is one of the main gateways to the town.

If you are coming from Manchester, Liverpool or further afield, connecting services will bring you into Southport train station.

Close to restaurants and attractions and a short walk to the promenade, you could be standing on the pier looking out over the beach and along the Sefton coastline, all within10 minutes of stepping off the train.

Merseyrail train stations are conveniently situated throughout Southport and Merseyside, perfectly located for getting around the region.

Regular train services connect Southport and the surrounding areas including Liverpool, Formby, Ormskirk, Chester, West Kirby and Hunts Cross.

There are 66 stations to choose from and many have car park facilities.

Merseyrail has great and affordable ticket options for all passengers.

Day Savers offer great value, with unlimited off-peak travel from £3.70 across the Merseyrail network.

The Merseyrail Family Ticket offers unlimited off-peak travel for up to two adults and  three children aged 5-15 for just £10, perfect for a family day out!

During busy events train timetables may be altered to strengthen the service and make your journey as smooth as possible.

You can access a journey planner which provides information for all public transport services available in the Merseyside region.

Create a journey plan based on your current location, an address, a postcode, a street name, a bus stop or a point of interest and it will provide an overview of each suggestion plus the detailed steps of each journey.

The journey planner can also be downloaded as an app on android or iOS.

Northern Rail operates regular services to Southport from Manchester Airport, Manchester (Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria stations), Bolton and Wigan.

Connecting services to / from the North East and Yorkshire are available at Manchester Piccadilly and from the North, Scotland and the South at Wigan.

The main entrance to Southport train station is located in one of the town's main shopping areas, Chapel Street, with Marks and Spencer, Wilko's and other retailers accessible from within the station.

There is also a convenient M to Go store where you can grab a coffee and a snack to keep you going.

With both rail services offering great offers on travel such as family passes, half price deals, leaving the car at home and visiting Southport by train really is a great option.

Why not explore Southport by bike - the ideal, cost effective and environmentally friendly way to see the sights!

Available for hire from the Southport Cycle Centre, in partnership with Merseyrail. This centre also includes secure cycle parking which is operated through Merseyrail and a cycle maintenance centre.

Southport Cycle Centre has bikes for all the family including; Tag-a-longs, trailers, children's bikes and child seats. Use of helmets, security locks, lights and other accessories are also included in the cost.

To hire a bike, the main hirer must be 18 or over and photo ID and proof of address will be required. Please note that bikes can only be hired per day and cannot be kept overnight.
