Sunnyside B&B is one of just 25 B&Bs in the UK to be awarded the Gold Award by Green Tourism for having sustainability at the heart of everything it does!

As well as offering homemade honey from their very own hive of bees, they also offer a range of home-cooked meals, cakes, jams, and even tomato ketchup made from locally sourced produce, and ensure water, jams, yoghurt and fresh milk are served in reusable glass bottles.

The Green Tourism Award certification programme recognises the commitment of tourism businesses which are actively working to become more sustainable. The awards are acknowledged worldwide as an indicator of good environmentally-friendly practices and are a great way of acting as a hallmark of ‘green quality’.

Anthony, proprietor of Sunnyside B&B has confirmed its mission to be one of the greenest and most sustainable businesses in Southport, paving the path and creating a benchmark for the future for the wider tourism & hospitality businesses.

Anthony said: “The business is a passion and a labour of love and to get the Gold Award in recognition of our sustainability ethos was great. But we are always looking to build on what we do, and we have welcomed a hive of bees – a healthy swarm from the Southport and District Beekeepers Association who have been extremely supportive.

You could say we now have 20,000 new staff members - although they are kept a secure hive on land across from the B&B, so customers don’t have to worry! I have been training to be a beekeeper since September and when the bees have enough in surplus, we will be offering honey at breakfast.”

It is the attention to detail sets us apart plus, we want to do the right thing for the planet and that includes keeping the food miles down, for example our bacon used to come from Denmark, now it’s Liverpool".

Sunnyside B&B were also recently a finalist of VisitEngland's B&B and Guest House of the Year, where they took home the bronze award. The VisitEngland Awards for Excellence champion the very best of the country’s tourism industry celebrating quality, innovation, best practices and exceptional customer service.

Sunnyside's homemade jams and marmalades are available to purchase, with proceeds going to Southport’s Queenscourt Hospice.
