About
This ride begins on the old Cheshire Lines Railway and follows a circular route through Ainsdale, Birkdale and Southport Town centre.
You will pass Birkdale Nature Reserve, the home of the rare Natterjack Toad and Sand Lizard, Birkdale Sands, the site used as training gallops by Red Rum and Royal Birkdale Golf Course.
The route continues through the centre of Ainsdale, passing the site of the old Ainsdale Mill, the Millstone is now housed in the Library garden and around the eastern edge of Birkdale.
Travelling back into Southport you will pass St. Paul's Church, built in 1864, with its distinctive towers and spires.
- Turn right out of the Eco Centre and head down Esplanade.
- Go straight across the roundabout and continue along the track next to the road. Continue to the next roundabout, passing Birkdale Nature Reserve, turn left onto the shared footway on Shore Road.
- Join the road and then turn left into the continuation of Shore Road. Continue straight on, crossing the railway line and passing through Ainsdale Village up to the roundabout.
- Take the second exit onto Segar’s Lane and continue straight on along Mill Road.The old Mill site was on the right, now home to a garage.
- At the junction of Carr Lane turn right onto Guildford Road and continue straight on passing through the traffic lights and across four mini-roundabouts.
- After the fourth mini-roundabout join the cycle track at the side of the road and continue straight on.
- Turn left just after the traffic tights to the garden centre on to the Community Woodland cycle track.
- After exiting the woodlands into Warwick Street continue straight on crossing Cemetery Road and then left into Elm Street.
- Turn right out of Elm Street and continue straight on, cross the railway line and then right in to Hollybrook Road.
- Turn second left into Dukes Street and continue to the roundabout, passing St Paul’s Church.
- Go straight across the roundabout and then right at the next roundabout.
- Continue passed Dunes Leisure Centre turn left at the roundabout back to the Eco Centre.
